The penalty shot...and more...

If you look hard enough you can find things that the league and team really don't want you to know. Obe is on the 30-day IR...and was suspended for 5 games. Anyone know why he is on the IR? Phil has been suspended 3 games. "Siggy" Siganuk was suspended for a game but sat out Saturday night, so he's good to go. Thanks again SPHL. Great job. I'm boycotting all games until we get our team back.

Our crack staff managed to track down video of Michael "Rocket" Richard's penalty shot goal from Saturday night's game. They found two versions as a matter of fact. Also we've included two more videos of the minor altercations that occurred Friday night. Bring back our players! Fight the power!

Note to the SPHL

Note to the SPHL: if you want more fans in the seats don't suspend players for minor altercations on the ice. Also, would it kill you to update your website with some sort of information when you do do something stupid like suspend coaches and players indefinitely?

Now, on to the highlights from Saturday night's rematch between our Cyclones and the Columbus Cottonmouths.

That. Was. Awesome.

The predicted snooze-fest ended at the 1:19 mark of overtime with Ben Manny scoring to give the Cyclones a 6-5 win. "Rocket" Richard did score on a penalty shot in the second period that was pretty cool. The staff of Cyclones Blog is furiously trying to hunt down some video footage of the goal.

Other notes of interest from the game:

Someone was crowned the first Miss Cyclone. I completely missed the crowning as I had to take a wee, but I've got the guys out looking for video of this as well. Many a fan could be heard wondering what exactly Miss Cyclone's duties will be.

Next up:

After four games last week, the Cyclones will only play once this week--at home Friday against the Knoxville Ice Bears. I won't be there. I am boycotting until Obe and Phil are allowed to play again.

Thanks guys.

Had to miss last night's game. One of the only ones I'll miss all season. Really nothing to say. The video speaks for itself. Thanks guys. I'm sure the teams won't even touch each other tonight.

Other notes of interest from the game:

I wasn't there.

Next up:

The Cottonmouths again tonight in the Annex. Expect to see...zero fights. Also expect to see...some chicks in swimsuits trying to become the first Miss Cyclone.

Refs hand one to the Fire Bugs

First of all...their names:

REFEREE: Curtis Marouelli
REFEREE 2: Justin Brown

Yes, there were 2 refs for the game last night. First time we've seen that in the Annex this season. Both had their whistles crammed securely up their asses all game...until overtime. There were only two penalties called in the third period...both on the Cyclones. One of those was a highly questionable "roughing" call on Phil Sbrocchi for throwing a beautiful elbow at the unsuspecting dome of Rob "Mouthy" Sich. Mouthy went down. And he went down hard. It was beautiful. The crowd of 1,002 let Phil know how much they appreciated the effort.

With under three minutes to go in regulation, the Bugs tied the score and into overtime we went. Three on three hockey for five minutes...if no one scores then they go to a shootout...the most exciting part of hockey (besides the fighting...and the beer...and the groupies). So both teams are playing hard...the crowd is into it, and all of the sudden at the 2:49 mark of overtime one of the ref's whistles pops out his butt and he puts it in his mouth...and blows it! What? On the Cyclones of course. The Bugs proceed to score almost immediately on the 4-on-3 powerplay...game over. Nice work Curtis and Justin.

Other notes of interest from the game:

..."Rocket" Richard was in Mouthy's face all night. When this first happened, it prompted Allan Sirois to come to the defense of the Cyclone's leading scorer by promptly knocking that sombitch Sich on his ass.

...the Cyclones managed to keep the Flying Ruberto Brothers in check all night.

Next up:

The Cyclones will welcome the Columbus Cottonmouths to the Annex tonight at 7:30pm. The Cyclones will be wearing pink jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game. Proceeds, at least some of them, will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. It's a great cause. I hope our fans aren't looking past pink jersey night to the beauty pageant on Saturday night. We need to focus! One game at a time!
